Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.
Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.

Turn off your Furnace to prevent pipe damage from repeated water hammer

Check the Furnace system pressure to ensure it is not too high
3
Verify the Furnace expansion tank is properly charged and not waterlogged
4
Drain and refill the Furnace system to remove trapped air that may cause hammer
