Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.
Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Check that the Furnace power switch is in the ON position and has not been accidentally turned off
Verify the Furnace circuit breaker has not tripped and reset if necessary
Check that your Furnace thermostat is set to heat or cool mode and the temperature setting is appropriate
Inspect the Furnace for any obvious signs of damage, leaking, or unusual odors
If the Furnace has a reset button, press it once and wait for the system to restart
If none of the above works, turn off the Furnace and call for emergency service immediately
