Furnace Pilot Light Emergency

Your Furnace pilot light keeps going out or won't light. Use this emergency troubleshooting guide.

4 Emergency Steps

Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.

Safety First

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.

Turn the Furnace gas control knob to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes for gas to clear

Locate the Furnace pilot light assembly and follow lighting instructions on the unit

Hold the Furnace reset button for 30-60 seconds after lighting the pilot to allow thermocouple to heat

If the Furnace pilot will not stay lit, the thermocouple may need replacement call for service
