Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.
Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Turn off your Furnace and allow it to cool down for at least 30 minutes
Replace the Furnace air filter if dirty as poor airflow causes high limit trips
Check that all Furnace supply registers are fully open and not blocked
Verify the Furnace blower motor is operating at the correct speed
Call for Furnace service if the high limit continues to trip after addressing airflow
